With growing market-based economy, adults have become busy in work lives and staying separately leaving elders at their own risk. As a result of socioeconomic changes, elders living with children increasingly becoming incidental. A collective failure of supportive environment to interact, learn and seek guidance from elders is diminishing. Young children do not get desired attention, direction and emotional support, leading to many other problems. The chains of relationships between aging parents, adult children and grandchildren known as intergenerational relationships is the missing link today. There is a strong need to revamp and promote Intergenerational relationships, as it presents a cyclical pattern of care and support among the families.
The Inter-generational project can make the elders who are well educated and experienced can provide wealth of knowledge and support to the young children and grandchildren. The conscious efforts to make children learn to relate to elderly and vice-versa; advantageous for elders and children. It helps in reduction of isolation & depression and energizing the elderly/grandparents and help children understand their elderly/ grandparents well, respect them and learn values and morals from their grandparents and help in keeping the family stories and history alive. The project aims to work with the school children.
